Meet Roberto Carlos
Known as the “King of Latin Music,” Roberto Carlos has sold over 120 million albums worldwide. Carlos revolutionized Brazilian music throughout the 1960s with his fusion of Anglo-styled pop and rock. His rise to fame coincided with the youth movement in music, brought on by the Beatles. With lyrics by close friend and fellow singer/songwriter Erasmo Carlos, Roberto’s music drew on inspiration from British pop. His bright tunes paired with the uplifting lyricism from Erasmo contrasted with the dark period of the military dictatorship that plagued Brazil at the start of his career. Over the course of his 60+ years in the spotlight, Carlos has come to be known as one of the most influential artists in all of Brazil.
